Friday night (October 9, 2020) is Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Heat at 9PM ET on ABC & ESPN, check out my DFS DraftKings showdown picks and more below
The Lakers defeated the Heat 102-96 in Game 4 and now lead the series 3-1. Can the Heat come back and make this interesting? Most experts don’t think so and I don’t either. I’m hoping for it tho, then we get at least get one more NBA game to play.
Speaking of experts, in case it’s not obvious. I should make it clear that I’m not one, nor am I pretending to be. I’m simply a DFS nerd that started writing my picks and some notes down this week. It’s been going well, you can check them all out this link.
Back to the game, the Lakers are -7 and the over/under is 216. I think the Lakers win big, but I thought the same last game and they didn’t. So yea, let’s get to the Game 5 picks!
NBA Finals Game 5 DraftKings Showdown Captain Pick
Bam Adebayo, Heat C (DK $9,800)
Bam returned in game 4 and he was just alright, with 15pts and 7 rebs in 33 mins. I’m not expecting him to go off in game 5, but I think he needs to if the Heat are going to win. I also mentioned I don’t expect the Heat to win, so this is a strategy play, or something.
My thoughts are he won’t be nearly as highly owned of a showdown captain as LeBron, Butler & Davis. It’s similar to why I took Davis as my captain last game, except I think this is riskier.
NBA Finals Game 5 DraftKings Showdown Utility Picks
LeBron James, Lakers SF (DK $12,000)
It’s LeBron, not much needed here. I am surprised he’s only $600 more than Davis tho. I think it’s an easy choice if you’re only taking one, but we’ll see. In the Denver series clinching game (also game five), he had 38, 16 & 10.
Jimmy Butler, Heat SF ($10,200)
Butler has been incredible the last 3 games. His price has gone up a bit, but I think he’s right with Lebron as top must-start players.
Tyler Herro, Heat SG ($9,000)
Last game I took Duncan Robinson over Herro because Herro was worth 3k more. This game he’s only 2k more but his price jumped a bit. I like his upside tho and he’s coming off his best game of the finals, Plus, the last time he scored over 20 in the playoffs, he followed it up with 37 the next game. Maybe something like that happens again?
Rajon Rondo, Lakers PG ($6,200)
Rondo has been inconsistent this series, but the minutes are there with 28 in each of the last two. I think he’s due for a big game, and that’s mostly why I’m taking him.
Kelly Olynyk, Heat C ($3,000)
After two big games, Olynyk cost a lot owners (including myself) in game 4. Bam returning obviously didn’t help, but he also had early foul trouble. I don’t think he’ll be highly owned at all after that and he’s still really cheap. I won’t feel good about this one, but it could pay off.
Markieff Morris, Lakers PF ($3600)
I’ve been playing Morris a lot during these finals. He hasn’t hurt me yet, had one great game and he’s still really cheap.
Dwight Howard, Lakers C ($3,200)
Coming off of his worst 2020 finals game, I don’t think he’ll be highly owned. Like Morris, he’s still cheap and could be a solid play if he stays out of foul trouble and gets some time.
Andrew Iguodala, Heat SF ($2,400)
He’s had some good games in the playoffs and he’s incredibly cheap. Worth a shot if you’re low on funds.
Some notes to finish it off-
I’ll probably play 3 diff lineups. So I’ll have Bam as a captain in one, then Lebron & either Butler or I’ll take a shot with someone like Herro or Rondo.
I mentioned last time Kendrick Nunn could be a good play. He wasn’t, he only had 12 FPTS. But he played 26 minutes and again I think he could be a good play. Also, Alex Caruso is usually good for around 15FTPS and is only $3400, could be useful.
And that’s all for this week, best of luck! See you on the next edition of…
