Check out the latest DiscussPW exclusive “Drafting with Jay”, DraftKings Showdown picks for Monday night’s (October 12, 2020) Los Angeles Chargers at New Orleans Saints game
Welcome, Jay here and I’m back with more NFL DFS DraftKings Showdown picks. They also work for non-showdowns, just ignore that part. So this time it’s the 1-3 Chargers who head to New Orleans to face 2-2 Saints.
For anyone new, there are picks for large DraftKings Showdown tournaments, where I make a lot of risky captain and overall plays. I make these picks early here, so be sure to look at the latest injury reports.
Check out the latest line and O/U for the game and then on to the picks.
Saints -7, over/under is 50 points.
Los Angeles Chargers (1-3) at New Orleans Saints (2-2) NFL DraftKings Showdown Captain Pick
Hunter Henry, Chargers TE (DK $7,800)
Henry is coming off a down week, which should put his ownership even lower than normal. The Saints defense is good against WR’s but have allowed the 2nd most points to TE’s this season. I think he could have a big game here, esp if (currently questionable) Mike Williams is still out. Taking him at captain leaves with me a lot of $ to spend on the rest of my team.
If I’m making a safe pick here, RB Alvin Kamara or one of the QB’s.
Los Angeles Chargers (1-3) at New Orleans Saints (2-2) NFL DraftKings Showdown Flex Picks
Alvin Kamara, Saints RB (DK $12,000)
Kamara has been ridiculous this season, averaging 33 DK FPTS a game with 7 TD’s already. I’m guessing he’ll be one of the most highly owned captains tho and he’s really expensive. Then again, he could be worth it with top WR Michael Thomas still out.
Justin Herbert QB, Chargers QB ($10,200)
Herbert has done a nice job averaging over 300 passing yards a game. Last week he had 3 TD’s against TB, and he can run a bit. He’s got 1 rushing TD already on an average of 4 attempts a game. I’m expecting his ownership to be less than Drew Brees, so I also like that about him this game.
I played around with a few lineups and got both QB’s in one of them (I usually play 2-3 lineups so I might give that one a go)
Emmanuel Sanders, Saints WR ($5,600)
Sanders led the team in targets last week, 6 catches on 9 for 93 yards. He had a TD the week before and only one game this year under 10.5 DK FPTS. TE Jared Cook is questionable, his return might hurt Sanders. But I still like him more than Saints WR Tre-Quan Smith who is $1,400 more.
Latavius Murray, Saints RB ($4,800)
Murray hasn’t been very good this year, but he had 2 TD’s last week (14 carries for 64 yds). I think there’s a good chance the Saints go ahead early and run the ball more than normal.
Justin Jackson, Chargers RB ($4,400)
It looks like Chargers RB touches will be split between Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson. Neither was good last game in limited opportunities and Kelley is almost double the price at $8,200. I figure the chances of either having a good game are close, so I’ll take a shot with the much cheaper Jackson.
Will Lutz, Saints K ($4,000)
I’m always surprised more people don’t play kickers in tourneys. Maybe it’s just cause I’ve been really lucky with them. Lutz is 6/6 on FG’s this year. No attempts last week but that’s probably not going to happen again here. I also like Chargers K Michael Badgley at $3,800. (Not both)
Some notes before I head out-
If Cook doesn’t play, I could see taking a shot with TE Adam Trautman at $1K. He did nothing last week so his ownership should be incredibly low. Saints WR Deonte Harris is out and WR Marquez Callaway is only $600, that could be something.
If Chargers WR Mike Williams is out, WR Tyron Johnson could be worth a look at $1,800. He had a 53 yard TD catch last game. And I didn’t even consider a defense, in case anyone was wondering.
That’s it for now, best of luck out there and see you on the next edition of…
