This week is the 2020 PGA The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek, check out my DFS DraftKings tournament picks and more below
Last week was my first try at doing PGA DraftKings picks on here and it went pretty well. I mentioned 10 players and 1 one of them won the tournament (Martin Laird). Here’s all the players I listed for the 2020 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and where they finished-
- Webb Simpson- T13
- Patrick Cantlay- T8
- Bryson DeChambeau- T8
- Harris English- MC
- Paul Casey- MC
- Brian Harman- T13
- Ryan Palmer- T34
- Chesson Hadley- MC
- Beau Hossler- T34
- Martin Laird- Tournament Winner
Some notes before we get to the picks.
Dustin Johnson recently tested positive for COVID-19 and has withdrawn from the field. Tony Finau who missed last week after a positive COVID test has also withdrawn. There is no cut in this tournament after 36 holes.
I mentioned last time I’m a big fan of course history but this doesn’t have any at all that I could find. It’s a new course where the “Tiger vs Phil” match took place, and neither of them are playing. So I’m mostly going on recent history this week and what I think is good DK value. Also, players I’m expecting to have a low or somewhat low ownership %.
Top PGA DraftKings “The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek” Overall Tournament Picks
Jon Rahm (DK $11,300) Rahm finished 23rd at the U.S Open the last time he played. In the weeks before that, he finished 4th at the Tour Championship, he won the BMW and 6th at the Northern. I usually never like taking the most expensive player in a golf tourney. But I’m guessing the other 10K+ guys- Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Xander Shauffele and Matthew Wolff will be higher owned.
Taking a shot with any of those guys or fading everyone over 10K are also good options.
Patrick Cantlay (DK $9,800) Cantlay finished 8th at Shriners last week, he ended up shooting a 73 to close it out after rounds of 63-65-65. He wasn’t playing great before that, but he’s only missed one cut this year. Maybe this is the start of a nice run for him?
Hideki Matsuyama ($9,200) Hideki doesn’t miss many cuts be he did last week at Shriners. In his previous 3 starts, he finished 17th at the U.S Open, 15th at the Tour Championship & 3rd at the BMW Championship. He missed 2 cuts previously this year and came back with finishes of 21 and 20. I’m thinking his ownership might be lower than usual after the MC.
Louis Oosthuizen ($8,500) He’s had 4 top 20’s in his last 6 tourneys, including a 3rd place finish at the U.S Open. He’s made 9 straight cuts and I’m a afraid he could be highly owned. But I don’t like most of the other options in this price range.
Top PGA DraftKings “The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek” Tournament Value Picks
Joaquin Niemann (7,500) He’s had a really good run over his last 4 tournaments. 13th place finish last week at Shriners, 23rd at the U.S Open, 27th at the Tour Championship and 3rd at the BMW.
Brian Harman ($7,200) I mentioned last week Harman made his last 7 cuts with 2 top 15’s finishes. Last week he picked up another top 15, finishing in 13th place, even after a disappointed final round. Plus, this week he’s a lot cheaper so I’m sticking with him.
Jason Kokrak (7,000) He missed the cut at Shriners last week but had 4 straight top 20’s before that. Maybe his hot streak is over, or maybe he just had a bad week? I’m hoping it’s the latter.
Cameron Smith (6,800) Smith has now made 8 straight cuts with 4 top 25 finishes in his last 6 tourneys.
Adam Long ($6,600) Long missed the cut at Shriners but finished 13th at the U.S Open. And the week after, he took 5th place at Corales Puntacana. Also had a 2nd place at the 3M Open in late July.
