The new HBO drama “Winning Time: Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” is described as a fast-break series that chronicles the professional and personal lives of the 1980’s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports most dominant dynasties. The series is based on Jeff Pearlman’s book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.”

Jim Hecht and Max Borenstein are co-creators, Adam McKay is pilot director and Borenstein is the showrunner. Executive producers are McKay, Hecht, Borenstein, Jason Shuman, Scott Stephens, Rodney Barnes and Kevin Messick.
