In the latest promo for the upcoming “Spider-Man: No Way Home” blockbuster event, the OG Spider-Man Tobey Maquire’s character was referenced. In the scene, Doctor Strange asks Doc Ock, who they have locked up, if the Peter Parker/Spider-Man he knows is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and Ock says no.
I’m sure that sounds confusing if you’re not a hardcore MCU or Spider-Man fan, and it is. But it’s also incredibly exciting! In the trailer, which we posted an IMAX version of above, Doctor Strange mentions these villains from other dimensions (also Green Goblin, Electro and the Sandman) are destined to die. That’s simply based on the previous Spider-Man franchise movies, in which they died.
I was thinking these may be variants we’ve never seen before, played by the actor reprising the roles we know, in a way. But this confirms the fact they died and now this, it confirms Tobey’s version is from the Doc Ock dimension and it will all be connected. Will we see Tobey and Andrew Garfield in this Spider-Man film? It’s seeming more and more likely, and I can’t wait!
Sony’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” drops exclusively in theaters on December 17, 2021. Check out the latest promo from Sony Pictures UK.
