AEW Collision Results 7/9/23

We hear from “Absolute” Ricky Starks, Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe and CM Punk prior to their Owen Hart Tournament matches tonight. CM Punk says that he and Samoa Joe have history, and that history will be detailed when he heads to the ring right now.

CM Punk heads to the ring. Punk says that he and Samoa Joe has history and that it feels like the end of the tournament, but he says that if saw it that way, he would see through the rest of his potential opponents. Punk states that tonight, history will be made and time will stand still. He says it has been eighteen years since he has last wrestled Samoa Joe and that he has had scars and loose teeth because of him, and says that if there is one name that should be chanted tonight, it is Owen Hart’s. The crowd chants for Owen, and Punk says that if it were not for Owen, the locker room would be mostly empty right and he may not even be a wrestler right now, and that most everyone would not be here right now if it were not for Owen. Punk then says that while this is hockey country, he is not a superstitious man, and that he will touch the Owen Hart Tournament trophy not because he deserves it, but because he has earned it.. He says that he cannot promise a victory because he has never beaten Samoa Joe and some people say he never will, but he believes, and tonight, win, lose or draw, he will pull his heart out until there is nothing left to give and he will leave everything in the ring for himself, the fans and Owen Hart.

We see a video package chronicling the history between CM Punk and Samoa Joe.

“Absolute” Ricky Starks beats Powerhouse Hobbs to advance in the men’s Owen Hart Tournament. During the match, QT Marshall inadvertently distracts the referee so much that he costs Hobbs the pinfall victory, and when Hobbs confronts Marshall for it, Starks hits Hobbs with the Spear to get the win. After the match, Marshall tries to apologize to Hobbs, but Hobbs shoves him with authority. Aaron Solo stnads between them, but Hobbs hits him with a spinebuster. Harley Cameron then gets between Hobbs and Marshall, and Hobbs ultimately leaves the ring.

We hear from Miro. He says many men have lost themselves after a deal with the devil, but only one man has found himself. He says he is ready to hurt people in ways nobody can hurt him, and that nobody can hurt the man who has nothing left to love or covet. He says he cannot be dissuaded from his goal, and that he must walk the righetous path. Miro says he senses a big battle coming, and that it is the one we have all been waiting for.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Willow Nightingale. Athena suddenly sohws up and says Willow Nightingale ruined her Collision debut and questions the legitimacy of Willow’s injury, then states that she is delaying their match so she does not want to lose another match to her after losing the New Japan Pro Wrestling Strong Women’s Championship to Giulia. Willow says she will put her smile back on and prepare for this coming Friday, and after that, she will take another stab at the ROH Women’s World Champonship. Athena says Willow cannot get cleared tonight and that she is not going to get cleared next Friday, much less beat her.

We see a video package for the upcoming Blood & Guts Match in two weeks.

Julia Hart beats Bambi Hall with Hartless.

We hear from Malakai Black, who says that the difference between himself and Andrade el Idolo as is that Andrade was not who he was until he lost his mask, while he has to hide in plain sight. He then says that Andrade has let his new mask control who he was and let it become the reason for his success, yet when he took it off, he had more strength than he was wearing it. He says that Andrade will not let go of the mask and that he will teach him, that they will cut that last vein into the heart of lies that Andrade has created for himself, and that the world will truly know how great he is like he does.

Backstage, Lexy Nair interviews Andrade el Idolo, who says that he is a businessman and that he does not hide behind his mask, and that he is not a coward like Malakai Black. He says that his mask is everything to him and is about his family, his country and his people, and when he has his mask on, he is all business, but when it is off, it is time to fight and win.

Dax Harwood accepts the challenge.

CM Punk beats Samoa Joe to advance in the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament after ducking out of the rear naked choke and rolling Samoa Joe up with a Victory Roll. After the match, CM Punk and Samoa Joe shake hands, then Joe puts Punk in the rear naked choke.
