A popular University of Georgia professor, Marianne Shockley; her boyfriend, Marcus Lillard; and a former psychologist, Clark Heindel, got together one night in May 2019 for a dip in a hot tub and to listen to music. Hours later, the professor and the psychologist were dead and only the professor’s boyfriend was alive. 48 HOURS contributor Jonathan Vigliotti investigates what happened that night in “The Strange Death of Professor Shockley.”

When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home of Clark Heindel in Milledgeville, Ga., they discovered a chaotic scene where Lillard and Heindel attempted to perform CPR on Shockley. While deputies investigated the scene, authorities say Heindel slipped into the house and took his own life. Within a day, Lillard was charged in his girlfriend’s death.

“There is good and there is evil and that night … evil came to play,” Lillard tells Vigliotti in an exclusive interview.

Lillard told investigators he had nothing to do with Shockley’s death and a jury acquitted him. Her family doesn’t believe him. So, what happened that night?

“The very first thought was, he had to have had something to do with this … Why would he kill himself?” Lillard says of Heindel. “There’s something he’s hiding.”

DiscussPW is a mix of Pro Wrestling and Entertainment. The site was started in 2016 and has gone through many changes over the years. Our main focus was events and tickets, but then the pandemic happened. We had to mix things up and will now be doing a lot more news. Events will still be covered, just as news instead of on a calendar. This site had an extensive events calendar, which we have moved away from. Pro wrestling has always been our main thing, we also do a lot of entertainment though. For example, we post movie trailers, tv previews and other kinds of news. We have a few discussions but strongly encourage comments on alqql of our posts. Be sure to keep things civil while commenting. If you have any questions or concerns, contact us above.
