WWE Royal Rumble 1/28/23

We see Lacey Evans and Zelina Vega draw numbers for the women’s Royal Rumble.

Backstage, The Bloodline surround Sami Zayn. Roman Reigns asks Sami Zayn why he cannot follow directions. Jey Uso takes the blame, saying that he had to call an audible after he and Jimmy Uso were removed from the building. Roman then asks why they are talking about last night, then says they should talk about tonight. He tells everyone but Sami to stay in the back, as Sami is going out there with him tonight because tonight is his night.

Greg Miller is met backstage by JBL, who says that he wants to change and turn over a new leaf, then brings him a gift in the form of a pie to the face.

We see Kofi Kingston, Santos Escobar and Drew McIntyre (with Wade Barrett watching) draw numbers for the men’s Royal Rumble.

Pat McAfee returns to commentary for the first time since September.

Edge enters at #24. He eliminates #20 Finn Balor and #22 Damian Priest, who then eliminate and attack him when he tries to eliminate #18 Dominik Mysterio. Roman Reigns retains the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Kevin Owens. After the match, the rest of The Bloodline shows up to celebrate with Roman Reigns, then The Usos attack Kevin Owens and hit him with the 1D as Jey Uso is about to put a lei around Sami Zayn’s neck. Roman Reigns keeps Sami Zayn close as The Usos wrap a chair around Owens’ head and Solo hits Owens with a hip attack. Paul Heyman then produces two sets of handcuffs, and The Usos handcuff Kevin Owens to the top rope so they can superkick him multiple times. Sami stops Roman from hitting Owens with a chair, and tells Roman that Owens is done and that this is beneath him. Roman then hands the chair to Sami, saying he should do it, that he is one of them and that there is no going back. He also tells Sami that Owens has kept him down since day one and that he needs to go. Roman gives Sami the choice of being with them or “doing Jackass shit,” and Sami starts crying. Sami rears the chair back, then hits Roman in the back. He then apologizes to The Usos, and Jimmy Uso superkicks Sami before beating on him. Solo pulls Jimmy off of Sami and hits him with the Samoan Spike, then Solo and Jimmy gang up on Sami as Roman screams at him. Jey Uso stands in the corner, and the rest of The Bloodline notice this. Jey Uso rolls out of the ring, and heads to the back crying. Roman then hits Sami Zayn repeatedly with the chair before tearing his shirt, and this leads to a “Fuck you, Roman!” chant as Roman plucks the flowers out of a lei and drops them on Sami one at a time. Jimmy then superkicks Owens once more for good measure.
